Thursday's Passover, Last Supper - Holy Week - Thursday - Day 5


Our Walk through Holy Week takes a somber turn on Thursday.

From Bethany Jesus sent Peter and John ahead to the Upper Room in Jerusalem to make the preparations for the Passover Feast. That evening after sunset, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples as they prepared to share in the Passover.

By performing this humble act of service, Jesus demonstrated by example how they were to love one another.

Today, many churches practice foot-washing ceremonies as a part of their Maundy Thursday services.

Then Jesus shared the feast of Passover with his disciples saying, "I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins. For I tell you now that I won't eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God." (Luke 22:15-16, NLT)

As the Lamb of God, Jesus was about to fulfill the meaning of the Passover by giving his body to be broken and his blood to be shed in sacrifice, freeing us from sin and death. During this Last Supper, Jesus established the Lord's Supper, or Communion, instructing his followers to continually remember his sacrifice by sharing in the elements of bread and wine:

"And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, 'This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.' And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, 'This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.' " (Luke 22:19-20, ESV)

Later Jesus and the disciples left the Upper Room and went to the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed in agony to God the Father. Luke's Gospel says "his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground." (Luke 22:44, ESV)

Late that evening in Gethsemane, Jesus was betrayed with a kiss by Judas Iscariot and arrested by the Sanhedrin. He was taken to the home of Caiaphas, the High Priest, where the whole council had gathered to begin making their case against Jesus.

Meanwhile, in the early morning hours as Jesus' trial was getting underway, Peter denied knowing his Master three times before the rooster crowed.

¿Que significa Esfuerzate y se valiente, no temas ni desmayes?

Respuesta: Muchas veces a lo largo de nuestras vidas, cuando estamos mas cerca de la bendición que Dios tiene para nosotros, somos victimas del desanimo y olvidamos que Dios prometió no desampararnos nunca.  A propósito, las únicas personas que se desaniman son aquellas que luchan por algo grande.  El desanimo rara vez toca al corazón de la gente sin visión y sin metas, siendo el arma del enemigo para aquellos que saben lo que quieren. “Mira que te mando que te esfuerces y seas valiente; no temas ni desmayes.  Porque Jehová tu Dios estará contigo en dondequiera que vayas” Josué 1:7 Dios ha prometido estar contigo todos los dias de tu vida. En el libro de Josue, cuando el pueblo de Israel se preparaba para la conquista de Canaan, y entrar en la tierra prometida,  Dios le promete a Josuè que nunca lo desamparará y requiere de él de dos virtudes indispensables, el esfuerzo y la valentía.  Dios no ha cambiado hoy y requiere que sus hijos nos mantengamos en pie ...

Cristianos y las fiestas mundanas.

Una joven cristiana le pidió a su papá la llevara a una fiesta mundana.  El padre que también era cristiano, se negó.  Pero ante la insistencia de su hija que la llevara, que no iba a bailar, sólo iba a ver, aquel hombre accedió.  En el camino al centro de fiestas, el padre le dijo a su hija, que llevaba un hermoso vestido blanco:  Pasemos antes a la mina donde trabajo. Necesito recoger algo.¨  Pero papá replicó la muchacha, me voy a ensuciar mi vestido blanco¨. ¨No! contestó su padre, sólo vas a ver, no toques nada. Entraron a la mina, y al salir, el vestido blanco, hermoso de aquella señorita, estaba sucio, manchado por el polvo del carbón en la mina. ¨Papá, mi vestido está sucio lleno de carbón, pero si no toqué nada¨, exclamó angustiada la joven. ¨Así, igual, le dijo el papá, en la fiesta del mundo te vas a ensuciar tu testimonio, tu vida cristiana, por el ambiente de pecado, aunque sólo estés viendo. Resucitado de la muerte espiritual

En otro tiempo ustedes estaban muertos en sus transgresiones y pecados... (Efesios 2:1) Pero Dios, que es rico en misericordia, por su gran amor por nosotros, nos dio vida con Cristo, aun cuando estábamos muertos en pecados. ¡Por gracia ustedes han sido salvados! (Efesios 2:4-5) La condición de la persona sin Dios es completamente desesperante: ¡está muerta! Por sí misma no podría tener una salida ni recursos suficientes para salvarse. De ese modo comienza la descripción en Efesios 2, diciendo cómo estábamos: muertos en nuestros pecados y delitos. Aun cuando estemos 'naturalmente' vivos, lejos del Señor Jesús, estamos perdidos y muertos espiritualmente. ¡Gracias a Dios que la historia no termina aquí! ¡El Señor decidió amarnos, perdonarnos y darnos vida! Él entró en nuestras vidas y cambió completamente nuestra historia. Pasamos de 'muertos-vivos' a ser hijos resucitados con Cristo. ¡Qué gran milagro! ¡Haz que valga de verdad la vida nueva que Dios te dio! 🤲 ¡Un moment...
