SECOND LETTER OF JOHN, Bible Study

INTRODUCTION

The Second Letter of John (Jn = 2), unlike the first, has the characteristics of letters formulas of antiquity (see Introduction to letters).
The author calls himself "the elder" without further specification. The letter is addressed to an unidentified community, but only a symbolic title designated (v. 1 note b).

The brief, very brief, refers to brotherly love, and also to the true faith in Jesus Christ against false teachers who had already begun to appear. These are issues more fully treated in the First Letter of John (see Introduction to 1 John ).

The letter announces an author's personal visit to the community. It seems unlikely that 2 John was sent to the same church recipient of the first.

As for the order in which these three letters were written, there is clear evidence.

Greeting 1

1 The elder to the community chosen by God and those who belong to it. b I really love, and not only I, but also all who know the truth. 
2 I love you because of the truth that we our heart and will be with us forever.
3 May God the Father, and Jesus Christ Son of the Father, shed His grace upon you and give mercy and peace, in truth and love.


The commandment of love

4 I was delighted to find some of your living according to the truth, c as the Father commanded us. 
5 Now, dear brethren, that we should love one another. d This I am writing not as a new commandment, but that which we received from the beginning. 
6 GOD´s love is to live according to the commandments of God, and the commandment, as you heard from the beginning, is that you live in love. f


True faith in Jesus Christ

7 They go around the world many deceivers who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ came as a real man. That is, is the deceiver and the antichrist. g 
8 Be careful not to lose the result of our work, but to take and receive your full reward.

9 Anyone who intends to go beyond what Christ taught, not God, but he who abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. h 
10 If you are visited by anyone that doesn´t teach what Christ taught, do not receive him in your home nor say anything, 
11 for he who greets them will be complicit in their evil deeds. i


Farewell

12 I have much to say, but I will do so by letter. I hope to come to you and talk to you personally, j so that our joy may be complete.

13 Those who belong to this community, your sister, also chosen by God, I greet you. k

Caminando con Cristo

Muchas veces, en nuestro caminar con Dios, podemos sentir que todavía estamos lejos de ser perfectos. Nos enfrentamos a luchas, fracasos y momentos en los que pensamos que no estamos progresando como nos gustaría.  Pero el apóstol Pablo nos recuerda en Filipenses 3:12-14 que no importa cuán imperfectos seamos o cuántos errores hayamos cometido en el pasado, Dios nos llama a seguir adelante. No que lo haya alcanzado ya, ni que ya sea perfecto; sino que prosigo, por ver si logro asir aquello para lo cual fui también asido por Cristo Jesús. Hermanos, yo mismo no pretendo haberlo ya alcanzado; pero una cosa hago: olvidando ciertamente lo que queda atrás, y extendiéndome a lo que está delante, prosigo a la meta, al premio del supremo llamamiento de Dios en Cristo Jesús. Dios puede animar tu día

Hoy compartimos una verdad transformadora: el poder de Dios es capaz de animar tu vida diaria. En medio de la adversidad, es reconfortante saber que tenemos un Dios que está siempre a nuestro lado, dispuesto a fortalecernos y animarnos. La Palabra de Dios asegura en Isaías 41:10: Así que no temas, porque yo estoy contigo; no te angusties, porque yo soy tu Dios. Te fortaleceré y te ayudaré; te sostendré con mi diestra victoriosa. (Isaías 41:10) Es una promesa fortalecedora que muestra que Dios no solo está con nosotros, sino que también nos permite vencer los desafíos. Cuando el día se sienta pesado, recuerda Filipenses 4:13: "Todo lo puedo en Cristo que me fortalece". No nos enfrentamos solos a los desafíos: el Señor nos acompaña y nos capacita para superar cualquier situación. Además, cada mañana la misericordia de Dios es nueva (Lamentaciones 3:22-23), brindándonos un nuevo día lleno de oportunidades para experimentar el amor y el aliento divinos. ¡Exalta al Señor con tus alabanzas!

Alaben al SEÑOR, porque es bueno: ¡Porque para siempre es su misericordia! (Salmo 136:1) En la lucha o en la alegría, nuestro llamado es el mismo: exaltar al Señor con nuestras alabanzas. La alabanza es más que una canción. Es una expresión viva de nuestra fe, una declaración de que Dios es soberano, sin importar las circunstancias. Cuando alabamos a Dios, algo poderoso sucede en nosotros. El desánimo se desvanece, las dudas se disipan y la presencia de Dios se hace más real. La alabanza nos recuerda quién es Dios: fiel, justo, amoroso, poderoso. Él es digno de todo nuestro reconocimiento, no solo cuando todo va bien, sino también cuando enfrentamos el valle de sombra de muerte. Exaltar al Señor con toda alabanza es un acto de entrega y confianza. Es decir con el corazón: «Señor, te adoro no por lo que haces, sino por quién eres». En medio del dolor, alaba.
