INTRODUCTION ( 1.1-4 )

1 The word of life to

1 We write about what was from the beginning, b of what we heard and what we have seen with our own eyes. Because what we have seen and we have touched with our hands. c is the word of life. d 2 This life was manifested: and we saw it and testify to it, f and declare to you that eternal life which was with the Father and has appeared to us. 3 We announce, then, what we have seen and heard, to have fellowship with us, as we have fellowship with God the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. g 4 We write this to make our joy complete. h

FIRST DEVELOPMENT ISSUE ( 1.5-2.28 )

1- Liberation from Sin

5 This is the message that Jesus Christ taught us and you: God is light and in him there is no darkness. i 6 If we say that j we have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not act in truth . k 7 But if we walk in the light, l and God is in the light, we have fellowship one with another and the blood of his Son Jesus m cleanses us from all sin. n

8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us; 9 But if we confess our sins, ñ we can trust that God is just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we let God a liar and we have not truly accepted his word. or

2- 1 My little children, I am writing these things so that you do not commit sin.to Even if one commits sin, we have with the Father a lawyer, b which is Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 Jesus Christ offered in sacrifice for our sins forgiven; c and not only ours, but those of the whole world.

Two. The commandment of love

3- If we obey the commandments of God, we can be sure that we know him. d 4 But who says: "I know him" and not do what he commands is a liar and the truth is not in him. 5 However, in whoever keeps his word has perfected truly the love of God, and thus we know that we are in him. 6 He who says he is united with God, you must live as Jesus lived. f

The New Commandment

7 Dear friends, this commandment that I am writing is not new: it is the same one you received from the beginning. The old commandment is the message that you have already heard. g 8 However, what I am writing you a new command, h is true both in Christ and in you: because the darkness is passing and you shine the true light. i

9 Whoever says he is in the light but hates his brother, is in darkness. 10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light and there is nothing that makes you fall into sin. j 11 But he who hates his brother lives and walk in darkness, and knoweth not whither he is going because the darkness has blinded him. k

3. True faith

12 Little children, I write because God has forgiven your sins up to its name. l 13 Parents, I am writing because you have known Him who is from the beginning. m Young, I am writing because you have overcome the evil one. n

14 I write to you, little children, because ye have known the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have also written to you, young men, because you are strong and have accepted the word of God in your heart, because you have overcome the evil one. 15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. ñ who loves the world does not love the Father, or 16 because nothing of what the world offers comes from the Father but from the world itself. And this is what the world has to offer: the evil desires of human nature, the desire to possess what is pleasing to the eyes and the pride of wealth. p 17 But the world is running out, with all its desires, in But he who does the will of God lives forever.

Truth and lies

18 Little children, this is the last hour. q Ye have heard that it is the Antichrist, r well, now there have been many antichrists. So we know it is the last hour. 19 have gone from us, but they were not really of us, because if they had been they would have remained with us. But it has happened and so you can see clearly that not all of us.

20 Christ, the Holy One, you have been anointed with the Spirit, s and you all have knowledge. t 21 I write, therefore, not because they know the truth, but because you know and you know that no lie can come from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? Precisely saying that Jesus is not the Messiah. This is the antichrist, he denies both the Father and the Son. , or 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father, but He who is in favor of the Son hath the Father also. v

24 So, keep in your hearts the message you heard from the beginning, and if what you heard from the beginning remains in your heart, you also will remain united with the Son and the Father. 25 This is precisely what Jesus Christ has promised eternal life. w

26 I am writing about those who try to deceive you. 27 But you have the Holy Spirit x with which Jesus Christ has consecrated, and do not need anyone to teach and for the Spirit that he has given you teaches you all things, z and its teachings are true and not a lie. Remain united to Christ, as the Spirit has taught you.

28 And now, little children, abide in Christ, that we trust when it appears and not feel ashamed in front of him when he comes.

SECOND DEVELOPMENT ISSUE ( 2.29-4.6 )

1- Liberation from Sin

29 Since we know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right is the son of God. to

3 1 Behold what love the Father, that we are called children of God, to and what we are. So that the world did not know us, because they have not known God. b 2 Beloved, we are God's children. And although not yet appear what we shall then know that when Christ appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. c 3 Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as Jesus Christ is pure.

4 Everyone who sins commits evil, for sin is evil. d 5 You know that Jesus Christ came into the world to take away our sins and that he has no sin. f 6 So all that remains attached to it not continues to sin, but no one who sins has seen him, neither known him. g 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous; 8 but he who commits sin is of the devil, because the devil has sinned from the beginning. h Precisely for this has been the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil. i

9 No one who is a child of God commits sin, because he has the life God has given him, and he can not sin because he is born of God. 10 We know who the children of God and who are the children of the devil, for whom does not good or does not love his brother, not of God.

Two. The commandment of love

11 This is the message that ye heard from the beginning: We should love one another. j 12 Do not be like Cain, who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why kill him? Because the facts of Cain were evil, and his brother, good. k

13 My brothers, do not be surprised if those who are of the world hate you. l 14 We have passed from death to life, m and we know this because we love our brothers. He that loveth not yet dead. 15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, n and you know that no murderer may have eternal life itself. 16 know what love is because Jesus gave his life for us; ñ well, we must give our lives for our brothers. 17 If you're rich and sees that his brother needs help, but does not give it, how can you love God in your heart? 18 My little children, let us love not only in words, but shows itself in action. or

Confidence before God

19 In this way we will know that we are of the truth, and we feel confident before God. 20 If our heart accuses us of something, God is greater than our heart w and knows everything. q 21 Beloved, if our hearts do we accused, we have confidence before God r 22 and he will give us everything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. s 23 And his commandment is to believe in His Son Jesus Christ and to love one another as he commanded us. t 24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he lives in them. And hereby we know that he lives in us: by the Spirit he gave us. u

3. True faith

4:1 Beloved, believe not all who claim to be inspired by God, but try the to see if the spirit that is in them is of God. Because the world is full of false prophets. 2 In this way you can know who has the Spirit of God: every one that acknowledges that Jesus Christ came as a man true tohave the Spirit of God. 3 But he that acknowledges Jesus, not have the Spirit of God, on the contrary, has the spirit of Antichrist. b have heard that this spirit is to come-well, you are in the world. c

4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome those liars, for he who is in you, d is mightier than he that is in the world. , and 5 They are of the world: therefore speak of the things of the world and those who are the world would listen. f 6 Instead, we are of God. Whoever knows God listens to us, but whoever is not from God does not listen. g In this, then, we know who has the spirit of truth h and who has the spirit of deception.

THIRD DEVELOPMENT ISSUE (4.7-5.21)

1. Love, sign of communion with God

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love comes from God. i and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. j 9 God has shown his love for us k by sending his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. 10 Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son , l to the propitiation for our sins remain forgiven. m

11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 A God never seen nobody, n but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is realized in us.

13 The proof that we live in God and that he lives in us is that He has given us his Spirit. ñ 14 And we ourselves have seen and testify that the Father sent his Son to save the world. , or 15 Anyone who recognizes that Jesus is the Son of God, lives in God and God in him.

16 So we have come to know and believe that God loves us. God is love, p and whoever lives in love lives in God and God in him. 17 Thus comes true love in us, so that in the day of judgment we trust, q because we are in this world as as Jesus Christ. r 18 Where there is love there is no fear. s Rather, perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment. Therefore, he who fears has not come to love perfectly. t

19 We love because he first loved us. 20 He who says "I love God," but at the same time hates his brother, he is a liar. Well who does not love his brother, whom he has seen can not love God, who does not see. u 21 Jesus Christ has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother. v

Faith, root of love

5: 1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God, for he who loves a father loves the children of that parent. 2 When we love God and do what he commands, we know that love also the children of God. 3 To love God is to obey His commandments, b and his commandments are not burdensome, c 4 because everyone who is born of God overcomes the world. And our faith has given us the victory over the world. 5 He that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God overcomes the world.

The testimony of the Son of God

6 The coming of Jesus was marked by water and blood- d not only with water, but by water and blood. The Spirit himself bears witness to this, and the Spirit is truth. 7 are three witnesses: and 8 the Spirit, the water and the blood, f and the three agree. 9 accept the testimony of men, but the testimony of God is of more value, it consists in the record that God gave of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God has this testimony in his own heart, who does not believe in God leaves a liar, g because they believe in the record that God gave of his Son. 11 This testimony is that God has given us eternal life and this life is in his Son. h 12 He who has the Son of God is the life, but he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. i

CONCLUSION (5.13-21)

13 I write this to you who believe in the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life. j

14 We trust in God, because we know that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, we know that we have what we asked of him. k

16 If anyone sees his brother is committing a sin not leading to death, he should pray and God will give life to brother. This really is a sin not leading to death. l There is sin that leads to death m and for that sin not saying that he should pray. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin not leading to death.

18 We know that we have God as Father does not sin, n because the Son of God takes care of him ñ and the evil one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness. or 20 We know also that the Son of God has come p and has given us understanding, to know the true God. We live together that is true, that is, His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life. q 21 Little children, keep yourselves from false gods. r
