SECOND LETTER OF JOHN, Bible Study

INTRODUCTION

The Second Letter of John (Jn = 2), unlike the first, has the characteristics of letters formulas of antiquity (see Introduction to letters).
The author calls himself "the elder" without further specification. The letter is addressed to an unidentified community, but only a symbolic title designated (v. 1 note b).

The brief, very brief, refers to brotherly love, and also to the true faith in Jesus Christ against false teachers who had already begun to appear. These are issues more fully treated in the First Letter of John (see Introduction to 1 John ).

The letter announces an author's personal visit to the community. It seems unlikely that 2 John was sent to the same church recipient of the first.

As for the order in which these three letters were written, there is clear evidence.

Farewell ( 12-13 )


Greeting 1

1 The elder to the community chosen by God and those who belong to it. b I really love, and not only I, but also all who know the truth. 
2 I love you because of the truth that we our heart and will be with us forever.
3 May God the Father, and Jesus Christ Son of the Father, shed His grace upon you and give mercy and peace, in truth and love.


The commandment of love

4 I was delighted to find some of your living according to the truth, c as the Father commanded us. 
5 Now, dear brethren, that we should love one another. d This I am writing not as a new commandment, but that which we received from the beginning. 
6 GOD´s love is to live according to the commandments of God, and the commandment, as you heard from the beginning, is that you live in love. f


True faith in Jesus Christ

7 They go around the world many deceivers who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ came as a real man. That is, is the deceiver and the antichrist. g 
8 Be careful not to lose the result of our work, but to take and receive your full reward.

9 Anyone who intends to go beyond what Christ taught, not God, but he who abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. h 
10 If you are visited by anyone that doesn´t teach what Christ taught, do not receive him in your home nor say anything, 
11 for he who greets them will be complicit in their evil deeds. i


Farewell

12 I have much to say, but I will do so by letter. I hope to come to you and talk to you personally, j so that our joy may be complete.

13 Those who belong to this community, your sister, also chosen by God, I greet you. k

Busca a Dios y revístete de poder

¡Estás rodeado!

Tu protección me envuelve por completo; me cubres con la palma de tu mano. (Salmo 139:5) Porque tú, Señor, bendices a los justos; cual escudo los rodeas con tu buena voluntad. (Salmo 5:12) Es común escuchar esa frase en las películas de acción durante los enfrentamientos y persecuciones policíacas.  David también vivió varias situaciones peligrosas, sitiado y teniendo que luchar o huir de enemigos mortales.  Pero, contrario a lo que vemos en esos escenarios de amenaza, peligro y tensión, la Biblia nos habla de un cerco diferente: Dios rodea con bondad y protección a los que confían. En estos salmos David declara que Dios es el escudo que rodea a sus justos. A pesar de todo el riesgo y la aflicción que puedan enfrentar, la presencia del Señor mantiene el corazón en paz y seguridad.  Así también nosotros podemos confiar que Dios nos rodea por todos los lados. Valoriza las pequeñas cosas

Pero ustedes, ¡manténganse firmes y no bajen la guardia, porque sus obras serán recompensadas! (2 Crónicas 15:7) Muchas veces dejamos de avanzar porque nos da la sensación de que no progresamos. Ignoramos ciertas cosas y solo les damos valor cuando las perdemos. Por eso, es importante que valoricemos los pequeños avances, que continuemos trabajando y creyendo en la Palabra de Dios. Con Dios, lo poco llega a ser mucho. No te quedes desanimado, fortalécete en Dios. Cuando no valorizamos lo poco dejamos de alcanzar grandes bendiciones.
